The majority of the Istrian peninsula is formed of carbon cliffs covered with the typical red soil of the area, and the region is very rich with caves.
In the very same picturesque region, near the town of Poreč , in the vicinity of the village of Nova Vas there is the Baredine cave, one of the most attractive caves in Istria.
In the 1986 the Baredine cave was declared a nature reserve because of its ornamental beauty and particularity.
At the beginning of the nineties it was reconstructed, and since May 1995 it has been open to the public. The cave is an absolute amazing site rich with stalagmites, stalactites and many underworld sculptures created through time by the patient work of water.
A pleasant 40 minute walk, accompanied by the cave guide will reveal you a number of abstract figures mixed with local legends and give you unforgettable memories about the place.
The cave is also home to some strange species of animals that live only in this type of environment, such as the “human-fish” and species of miniature crabs and insects.

The “Jama Baredine” – The Cave of Baredine, is located near the small village of Nova Vas some 10 minutes of driving from the town of Porec .
