Located in the north of the modern province of Wollo in Ethiopia and sorrounded by mountains from all sides, is the top attraction of the region. Being at 2630m above the sea level , this isolated place is a very known pilgrimage center to it's many annual visitors. These churches are cut straight from bedrock, so that their roofs are at ground level.According to the legends, it took a century to build them and they were built with the help of angels.
