Housed in a remarkable conversion of what was the looming Bankside Power Station, Tate Modern is the largest modern art gallery in the world. This section of the south bank of the river Thames has gone through some serious regeneration during the last decade, so that now the Thames Path allows you to walk to many other attractions.
The coolest way to approach the gallery is by crossing the Millenium Bridge which is the first pedestrian only bridge in London, and the first new bridge across the river in the last hundred years.
Entering down the west ramp you’ll get to the Turbine Hall, which is a vast breathtaking space used for thematic shows that change every six months or so. Being so huge it allows the display of monumental pieces of art.
The galleries are enormous and very bright with divided levels, housing permanent and temporary exhibitions. You will be able to see fascinating work of Surrealists, abstract artists, Cubists, Impressionists, but also multimedia installations.
