Where do you think the most famous pubs in the world are located? Dublin of course!
Pubs have always been a focal point of the city’s social life. When Arthur Guinness founded his brewery in 1759, they were the place to talk politics, literature, philosophy and sport.
Dublin is the capital of the Emerald Isle and lies halfway down the east coast. It is a lively little city with excellent public transport, but even better to see on foot if you wish to taste it’s most famous exports – Guinness and Jameson whiskey.
It is home to many literary celebrities who often inspired themselves in the brawl and excitement of many an old watering hole. Today you can join a literary pub crawl, an informative and entertaining way that guides you to the places where Samuel Beckett, George Bernard Shaw, James Joyce and many more have spent their time; and drink your pint of Guinness at that same place.
One of the oldest and most characteristic pubs in Dublin is definitely John Mulligan’s, on Thomas Street beside the old Cornmarket, which opened in 1782. Others that are exciting and fun to visit are The Dawson Lounge, Doheny and Nesbitt’s, Jonnie Fox’s Pub and Toners.
You need to either be well-disciplined with your drinking or have strong stamina during your pub crawl, or you might wind up like the rest of the crazy tourist bunch puking and falling down the street... Watch your step!!!
