Blue Mountains is the mountain area nearest to Sydney, part of The Great Dividing Range that stretches up the east Australia. The mountains got their name because of the blue fumes that rise from the million of the eucalyptus trees in the area.
Once thought of as impassable land, today is the attraction with amazing scenery of ravines and canyons, and three established mountain resorts. The place is perfect for walking, climbing and abseiling. At the top of the range there is a plateau into wich the rivers have carved deep valleys, at an altitude of more than 1000m (3300ft)
