Chao Phraya at travel-best-destinations.com

Locally known as Krung Thep – the city of Angels, Bangkok is a huge city on the Chao Phraya River with a population of about 6 million. It is everything and even more than you would imagine a great Asian city to be.

If you’re thinking of avoiding the crowd, and explore the old city on the east bank, the river and it’s canals, the best way to do it is by a river ferry or chartered boat.

This way you can see many beautiful temples, the Grand Pallace, the 19th century architecture, the dockyard and the Bangkok’s famous floating markets.

On the way you’ll see the Royal Barge National Museum which houses the kings’ ceremonial barges which were used on different occasions and processions.

Among the temples you can see are the Wat Arun, Wat Kaeo Fa and Wat Suwannaram. At Wat Sai floating market you can buy yourself a souvenir, while at Tailing Chan taste the thai cuisine at the food market held at weekends.

Another place worth to visit is the small island of Ko Kret which houses the Ancient Mon Pottery Center. Explore the center and observe potters at work.

There are numerous boat tours during the day, as well as dinner cruises in the evening, which give you the opportunity to dine in luxury while watching the lit-up old buildings and the city skyline.
