Victoria Falls at travel-best-destinations.com

This spectacular natural phenomenon is described by the near Kokolo tribe as “Mosi-oa-Tunya” – The Smoke that thunders, or “the greatest known curtain of falling water”.

The vast columns of spray emanating from the waterfalls can be seen from over 64km (40mi) away as the water plunges a vertical drop of 100m (330 ft) into the deep gorge below. In the rainy season the show is even more spectacular as over 546m2 (2.5 million gallons)  of water explodes through the 2 km (1.5mi) wide fissure every minute, transforming the Zambezi river from a calm river to a strong current of roaring water.

There are several great view points in the area from which you can admire the nature in one of it’s most amazing performances. Facing the falls there is another twin wall about the same height, capped by mist-soaked rainforest, offering a nice view to the brave visitors who are not afraid to get soaked by the cloud of spray.

Probably the best view of the whole spot you can get is by air, but still there’s nothing like living it among the mist.

Other great panoramic spots are the Victoria Falls Bridge and the Lookout Tree which offer you an amazing 360 degrees perspective of the combination of the see-green river, the shiny black rock and the emerald green foliage.
