Mount Sinai, Egypt

As you may have noticed, I’m particulary attracted by Africa and its sites and locations. The Old Continent has so many ancient tales to say, but also so many mysteries which still have to be discovered.

Mount Sinai, Egypt

The place where Moses spent 40 days and received the Ten Commandments, still remains one of the major pilgrimage sites in the world.

Weather you belive the mountain’s history or not, the view of the sorrounding desert from the top of it leaves nobody indifferent to it’s beauty. The pleasure of being able to reach its top prolongues the feeling.

The top at 2285m (7500ft) can be reached by various routes, and the hordes of visitors make the trek daily. The most challenging route is via the 3750 Steps of Repentance, named after the penitent monk who built them. A bit easier way is via the Camel Path, and takes around three hours.

Both paths join at Elijah’s Basin marked by a 500 year old tree where God is said to have spoken to Elijah as he hid from Jezebel. This is also the point where you can spend the night and take the last 750 Steps of Repentance in the morning. Reach the summit before the sunrise and admire the view.
